SUMMA participates in the T20 Summit, which delivers public policy recommendations to the G20 | Buenos Aires

The director of SUMMA made his presentation on September 17 before the panel Education for the Future: Global Perspectives for Local Solutions. The panel, moderated by Alejandra Cardini (CIPPEC), also featured presentations by Claudia Costin (Getulio Vargas Foundation), Mathias Urban (Dublin City University) and Kazuhiro Yoshida (Hiroshima University).

The event brought together specialists from the world’s leading think tanks, Argentine government authorities, representatives of international organizations and the business community, who will participate in panels and presentations at the T20 Summit. The meeting will take place at the Kirchner Cultural Center in Buenos Aires.

Within the framework of the T20 work, SUMMA, together with GRADE (Peru) and CIPPEC (Argentina), prepared the document “Financing Quality and Equitable Education in Latin America“. The publication provides recommendations to the G20 on public policies to improve investment in education and a more equitable distribution of resources. This is based on the premise that educational learning outcomes in low- and middle-income countries remain insufficient and unevenly distributed.

The meeting was attended by five internationally renowned speakers: Alicia Bárcena, Secretary General of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); Nicholas Burbules, specialist in Philosophy of Education and professor at the University of Illinois; Nora Lustig, economist and professor at Tulane University; Ibrahim Mayaki, former Prime Minister of Niger; and Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University.

During Argentina’s presidency of the G20, the T20 develops public policy recommendations based on the research of ten theme working groups, consisting of researchers from countries that belong to the multilateral forum.
