KIX held its inception meeting in Latin America and the Caribbean

On Tuesday, June 9, the first meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Hub was held to work on the main educational challenges in the region.

The Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) is a new platform of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), which brings together the most diverse actors in education. Its objective is to contribute to the strengthening of education systems in partner countries, which are characterized by various problems in this field and the vulnerable situation of its population.

The Regional Hub for Knowledge Exchange and Innovation (KIX) for Latin America and the Caribbean inaugurated its activities on Tuesday 9 June, with a meeting to identify the main educational challenges and thus to think together in the most effective ways to address them. The conversation took as its starting point the results of an exploratory study carried out between April and June.

The virtual space brought together authorities from participating countries in Central America and the Caribbean, representatives of the consortium responsible for the design and operation of the KIX node in the region also participated: SUMMA (Laboratory of Education Research and Innovation for Latin America and the Caribbean) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), as well as representatives of the Canadian government’s IDRC research centre, and GPE.

During the meeting, the representatives of the different countries reflected on an agenda of cross-cutting education priorities that include: the consequences of COVID-19 on students and teachers, low access to the initial and secondary levels, addressing socio-economic and gender inequalities that hinder access to quality education, meeting the needs of rural populations and improving teacher professional development, among other points. In this way, the KIX network in Latin America and the Caribbean began its journey to promote evidence-based education improvements.
